About the Artist
Liesje van den Berk (Nijmegen, 1982), active as a visual artist since 2004, lives and works in Amsterdam.
Liesje van den Berk investigates the relationship between body and environment. Through the sensory experience of both material and body, Van den Berk responds to the environment through drawing, from her individual physical presence but more often in relation to the other, or an audience. How does the body react physically to its surroundings? What material traces and markings does the body leave behind on a surface such as the floor or paper? What do the memories of a temporary physical presence look like or the expression of an identity on a location? Such questions result in an artistic practice in which drawings and performances emerge interactively and gradually.
Work by Liesje van den Berk can be seen in various private collections, exhibitions and performances at home and abroad.
