About the Artist
Suzan Drummen works in various disciplines and mainly makes large floor installations with shiny objects. The work is ambivalent; in some places it is enchantingly beautiful and intoxicating, but a little later it is nauseating, or completely chaotic. With the help of doublings, reflections and drying effects, parallel motifs tumble over and through each other.
The three photos above were taken at Sundaymorning@EKWC (an international artist-in-residence for ceramics), where she used 150 kg of wet clay over and over again. One of the photos shows a sleeping man, who was covered with a blanket of strings of wet clay. Again ambivalence, because although it was an attentive and loving act and a blanket is usually associated with warmth, the muddy clay made him cold and therefore he seemed to be buried.
